Q: Can I choose my instructor?

In general, students cannot choose a specific instructor.

MANGA DOJO Online classes are taught by a team of professional Japanese manga artists. Instructors may vary depending on the lesson topic and each artist’s area of expertise.

This allows students to learn a wider range of techniques, including character design, storytelling, composition, emotional expression, and digital manga creation.

Please note that instructor assignments may change without prior notice.

Q: I don’t have any digital drawing equipment. Can I still join the class?

Absolutely!

You do not need an iPad, drawing tablet, or any special digital equipment to participate in our classes.

All you need is:

  • Paper
  • A pencil or pen
  • An internet-connected device (PC, tablet, or smartphone)

Many professional manga artists in Japan began by drawing traditionally on paper, so traditional drawing is a great way to learn the fundamentals of manga.

If you decide to draw digitally in the future, the skills you learn in our classes will easily transfer to digital art.

The most important thing is to start drawing and enjoy the creative process!

You’re welcome to join with whatever tools you have at home.

Q: What software do professional manga artists use? Can I use any software for the class?

Our professional manga artist instructors primarily use CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX, one of the most popular software programs used by manga artists in Japan.

As a student, you’re welcome to use any software or drawing tools that you’re comfortable with, including:

  • CLIP STUDIO PAINT
  • Procreate
  • ibis Paint X
  • Photoshop
  • Paper and pencil
  • Any other drawing software

There is no requirement to use a specific software program to participate in our classes.

*If you’d like to learn how to use CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX, we can teach you during our 4 Personalized Feedback Sessions + 1 Online 1-on-1 Lesson program. In your private lesson, you’ll be able to ask questions about digital manga creation techniques and learn directly from a professional manga artist.

Whether you’re drawing traditionally or digitally, we’ll support you every step of the way!

Q: How long is each class?

All classes are 90 minutes long.

During each 90-minute session, you’ll receive live instruction from professional manga artists, have opportunities to ask questions, and receive personalized feedback on your work.

We believe 90 minutes is the perfect amount of time to learn new techniques, practice drawing, and interact with your instructor and classmates.

Q: What is your refund policy?

All sales are final. We do not offer refunds for any reason, including accidental purchases or scheduling conflicts. We appreciate your understanding.

Q: Can I change the lesson I registered for? (Single Ticket / 4-Lesson Pass)

Q: How does personalized feedback work?

Q: What file format should I use?

PNG or JPEG are recommended.

Q: What happens in the 1-on-1 online lesson (90min)?

You will have a private google meet lesson with a manga artist to discuss your work and receive personalized guidance.

6. I want to draw on paper during my 1-on-1 session. How should I set up my camera?

If you plan to draw with paper and pen, we recommend the following setup:

  • Device 1 (PC or iPad): Use this to watch the instructor and communicate during the lesson.
  • Device 2 (Smartphone): Position your smartphone above your drawing paper so that the instructor can clearly see your artwork as you draw.

This allows our instructors to provide real-time feedback and drawing corrections during your session.

If you only have one device, you can also angle your camera downward so that your paper is visible, but using two devices is highly recommended for the best learning experience.

Don’t worry if you’re a beginner—we’ll help you find the setup that works best for you!

Q: When does the special offer end?

The special offer (up to 3 pages per session) is valid until September 30.
